About Me

At the 1st Global Forum on Childhood Pneumonia, Barcelona 2020
Welcome! I am a final year PhD candidate at the University of Edinburgh, studying global health governance, health systems and policy. My thesis is titled "Governance of childhood pneumonia: assessing the effect of global narratives on national priorities and implementation in Bangladesh". My brilliant supervisors are Prof. Devi Sridhar and Dr. Mark Hellowell.

Apart from infectious diseases and child health, my other research interests are global health security, the political determinants of health and antimicrobial resistance. I have previously conducted research in global health security, universal health coverage and private health sector engagement. I also have a Masters in Public Health and BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences. I am also a prolific writer, having written for publications such as Black Ballad, BBC Science Focus and the British Medical Journal.

I have one year of experience working as an Associate Consultant at Impact for Health International, where we use strategic facilitation, technical analysis and information design to help our clients optimise their development work. Clients I have experienced working with include the World Health Organization, Ipas, USAID and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Health areas of focus are governance and private sector engagement, digital health, sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Regarding science communication, I have the producer and host of the Public Health podcast 'NotiPHied', where I discuss various public health topics with special guests to make public health accessible.

On a more personal note, I was recently diagnosed with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) - a rare neurological autoimmune disease I nearly died from. Inspired by their work and discussing with the wonderful team, I am now Scotland's only Ambassador for The Sumaira Foundation, dedicated to generating global awareness of NMOSD and MOGAD.

Feel free to browse this website to look at my publications, teaching experience and press engagements. Have fun!
